Veteran coach Bashir Hayford has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to cancel the 2019/2020 football season and use this period to look for sponsorship for next season.
The Ghanaian football season commenced interestingly in December 2019 after more than a year’s break but had to be suspended after just 3 months of action as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.
In the midst of the crisis where it is uncertain when the government will lift the ban on football activities, Coach Bashir Hayford believes the Ghana FA should use the period to secure sponsors for the next season.
“I will use this opportunity to advise my colleagues, the FA, and the Stakeholders in Ghana football that, we started the league with no sponsorship. I will advise the FA to cancel the league and their time to seek for good sponsorship so they can package next season well”, the former Ashanti Gold SC gaffer said in an interview with Aben FM.
He added, “When we resume the league we the coaches are going to suffer a lot because we are not like Europeans. We don’t have good facilities for training and facilities for examining us. All that I want say is that the GFA should cancel the league and plan well for next season”.
The Ghana FA remains in a dilemma over what should happen to the football season with divided opinions among the various stakeholders of the game.
The body will however make a final decision at the end of this month.
